Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never ordered custom frames online, how does this work?

You simply choose your frame style, enter the exact dimensions of what you will be framing and add it to your cart. We will custom make your frame and ship it out to you. Once you received, you would place the frame contents into the frame and secure it with the appropriate hardware (you can order securing and hanging hardware for your order by selecting the option in the shipping method drop down menu on the last page of checkout. We have a tutorial on the “Framers Corner” link in the top menu that illustrates how to frame, secure, and hang your artwork. Ordering from us will save you typically 70% to 75% off custom frame shop prices.

I have my artwork dimensions measured, but what do I put for Width and what do I put for Height?

You need not worry about which dimension you put for “width” and which you put for “height” as it will not affect the making of your custom frame. For example, an order of 48" H x 12" W is exactly the same frame as 12" H x 48" W. The key will be how you attach the hanging hardware on the back, which you would do once you receive the frame.

After I place my order, how long will it take for my order to be delivered?

We aim to ship out club member orders within 3-5 business days, though this is not guaranteed depending on volume. Once your frame order has shipped, it can take FedEx Ground and UPS Ground 1 to 4 business days to deliver the order, depending on the distance between our facilities and the destination. If you have a deadline, please let us know by replying to your confirmation email after you placed your order. We will do our best to meet your deadline and if we feel we can not, we’ll contact you.

Will my frame come assembled?

All small sized frames will automatically come pre-joined. Medium to large sized frames are typically shipped ready to assemble to minimize risk of damage and to bypass shipping restrictions that may trigger hefty oversize fees. Assembling frames is easy and no special tools are required to achieve results as us pre-joining it. See our “Framers Corner” link for an illustrative guide. If you prefer to have your frames be pre-joined, simply reply to your confirmation email requesting so. Requests will be honored so long as they fall within UPS and FedEx oversize package threshold.

What is the cost of shipping?

Shipping cost is based on the order total. The shipping rate table is posted on the cart page, which you can view before checking out. All shipping rates include insurance. Orders over $250 always receive free shipping.

Are any of your frames made from polycore, polystyrene, or any other non-wood substance?

No. All of our wood mouldings used to create your custom frame are made from solid wood. We do not use low cost substitute materials to create our mouldings, we provide only the highest quality solid wood based frames in a variety of finishes.

How can you provide such low prices on solid wood custom frames?

There are two main reasons why we can provide such low prices and still deliver the same high quality custom frames as you would get at a local custom frame shop: We drastically minimize all overhead costs that many retail framing shops incur and factor into their pricing and we work on smaller profit margins, aiming to benefit on a higher volume of sales through a nationwide customer base and repeat business.

Is there a minimum order?

No, there is no minimum. We care and pay as much attention to a single frame order as we do to a large bulk order.

How are the frame prices calculated?

We price our frames by the inch based on the total inner dimensions of the custom order (i.e. the size of the artwork), rounded up to the nearest inch. As an example a 10 1/2" by 10 3/4" frame constitutes an order of 43 total inches (2 lengths of 10.5" and 2 widths of 10.75" inches, totaling 42.5" which is then rounded up to the nearest inch for an order of 43"). The total inch quantity is then multiplied by the per inch price to get the total price for the custom frame.

How precise a measurement can custom orders be cut?

We cut our frames to exact specifications as small as a 1/8th of an inch.

What is a rabbet?

A Rabbet is the recess on the inside edge of the frame where the artwork is placed. The size of the rabbet denotes the depth of this recess. Typically, this size does not affect the framing of any artwork since various sized offset clips or framing points can be used to meet the needs of any artwork depth / rabbet depth combination.

Will the color of the frame I receive vary from what I see on the website?

The photos we have placed on the website are accurate color representations of the actual product and there is very little if any variance in color due to manufacturing, however, since monitor settings and depictions of color on computer screens may vary from one customer to another, it is possible that the color received is not exactly the same as seen online. Our frames have been categorized by color to further assist in this matter. The only way to be a 100% certain if the finish is exactly what you are looking for is to order a sample before placing an order.

May I order samples of the moldings I am interested in before I decide to place a purchase?

Yes. We send out samples in sets of 1, 3, 5, or 10 for a total cost of $4.50 to $19.50, which includes shipping. The moulding samples come in 3" sections. To order, simply go to our home page and click on the “order samples” icon link on the right hand side of the page, mid-way down.
